Women in manufacturing to discuss workplace transformation at Fabtech Canada 2024

TORONTO — Fabtech Canada is organizing an event for the metal fabricating industry this year at the Toronto Congress Centre from June 11 to 13. A panel of women in manufacturing will discuss ways to improve future workplaces.
Studies show a steady decline in women advancing in the workplace, with nearly 50 per cent at entry levels and 28 per cent at C-Suite ranks, with lower numbers for women of colour. The panel will address how to transform workplaces to better support women.
The session, ‘How Associations and Employers can Empower Women to Create New Workplace Cultures’ will take place on June 13 at 12:30 p.m.
Moderated by Daniela Todaro, general manager of Cambridge, Ontario-based Bothwell Steel, Samuel, Son and Co., the panel includes Rebecca Sanguigni, manager of strategy and corporate development at Etobicoke, Ontario-based Metalogics, Jen Coulson, trader for Brampton, Ontario-based Triple M Metal, and Marissa McMurray, regional communications manager, USA for Pittsburgh, PA-based Hatch.
The panel will address the current state of workplace cultures and women’s unique challenges, highlighting the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in fostering innovative and resilient work environments. It will explore strategies for how employers can implement a supportive atmosphere for women, and practical solutions for how professional associations can support leadership training, mentorship programs, and strategies for addressing unconscious bias in the workplace.
“By fostering dialogue and sharing knowledge, we can create positive change and build more inclusive workplace cultures,” said Todaro, who also serves as president on the board of the Association for Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) Toronto Chapter. “It’s crucial to create spaces where women can thrive and contribute their unique perspectives to the industry,” she added, explaining that the panellists will also share their personal experiences, insights, and best practices for creating supportive environments where women can succeed and advance in their careers.
