HANTSPORT — As CKF continues to grow as a manufacturing company in Nova Scotia, Canada and the U.S., company officials and supporters gathered in Hantsport to celebrate the grand opening of the company’s expanded warehouse. The new facility connects the existing factory to the storage warehouse, providing an additional 28,000ft2 of space for the manufacturing plant.

Ian Anderson, President of CKF Inc. welcomed employees, parent company Scotia Investments Limited (SIL) board members and family shareholders, as well as leaders from the Scotia Investments family of companies. Tim Houston, Premier of Nova Scotia was also joined by other provincial and municipal officials to mark the occasion.

“This new warehouse provides significantly more storage for finished product onsite, which will improve worksite logistics and reduce trucking and transportation requirements,” said Mr. Anderson, “Ultimately, this helps our teams better serve current clients and while enabling us to build capacity for future opportunities.”

Parent company Scotia Investments Limited (SIL) has made the $10 million capital contribution to this expansion.

“SIL’s ongoing investment into sustainable molded pulp products produced right here in rural Nova Scotia is very important to our board and family shareholders” says Randy MacMillan, SIL President and CEO.

“To individuals outside of SIL, we look like a widely diverse manufacturing company. 1500 people making boxes, plates, packaging, industrial cores, trees, power, and recycling,” said Mr. MacMillan, “In reality, the Scotia Investments family of companies past, present, and future is designed to build off each company’s model to support one another in a circular fashion.”

MacMillan shared with the audience examples: waste fibre from Maritime Paper is collected by Scotia Recycling and utilized in CKF. Maritime Paper finished products are used as packaging by Biomedica. Scotia Recycling collects and transports recycled products to 3rd party partners who re-manufacture them into paper for Crown Fibre Tube and Maritime Paper. CKF utilizes green energy from Minas Basin Power and Timberland Holdings to energize the Hantsport plant.

“All of these circular connections are part of the ongoing legacy of the founder and the core values held by the shareholding family. We will continue to invest in growth opportunities and organizations whose employees and customers value leading-edge sustainable products, long-term stewardship, environmental integrity, and community well-being. We invest for future generations,” said MacMillan.
